To those of you who bid RCO training. The management expects a lot out of the G3 employees. Sometimes too much but that’s another issue. When it comes to the OJT portion of the training push to run the box the whole day. Do not let your trainer for the day have you simple stand and watch. Do not let management say “we need to get things done, students can’t run”. Push to do as much as possible. If on OJT you get paired to work Utility job do the same thing as above. Before you get on OJT you need to have the ‘Net control’ Training module completed. G3 managers will expect that when you place yourself on a regular job or the extra board at G3 that you know: 1) Create and execute a plan to achieve the requirements they set forth for you shift. 2) create and complete your own switch list. 3) train set outbound trains and pickups and print out their paperwork. 4) make inventory corrections to tracks to ensure accuracy 5) have a plan in advance for the next inbound train so it isn’t held out 6) talk and coordinate with the dispatcher about inbound and outbound trains 7) coordinate with the MIC on engines in the yard. I.E. get them to locations to have them serviced. 8) 7.1 Switching safely and efficiently To be honest the list goes on. The G3 managers EXPECT YOU to know and do all of this. They are not taking any excuses from employees. They will harass you if you’re unable to be as efficient as other(which isn’t fair). Start by learning as much as you can. Don’t let your weeks of training nowhere. PLEASE report when you aren’t receiving adequate training or time!!!!! Share this information to people you know who bid the class. Be safe out there!!
