Driverless Tech
Last month, SMART Transportation Division's Illinois State Board commissioned a public survey in the Chicagoland area regarding Metra and public transportation; in this same survey we also asked a few questions about automated/driverless technology in the transportation world.
And the data is clear, 67 percent of the Chicago public opposes (51 percent strongly opposes) the use of automation/driverless technology for freight trains. The data shows the same level of opposition for automated freight trains as driverless Uber services. The full story here.
SMART-TD's National Safety and Legislative Office will use this data to educate elected officials that we are a strong NO when it comes to the marriage of automation and freight trains.
