They'll say they no longer have to pay backpay. But we sent our vote this morning - majority of responses were yes.

OK. Our contract expired January 1 of this year. Our raise should have been taking effect today IF the new contract had been negotiated. It was not, so no raise today. If approved, Carrier will increase wages by 3% starting August 1, 2025. WHENEVER the contract is ratified, there would be no backpay EXCEPT for the difference between what was finally agreed upon, and the 3%. Remove January 1 from the equation.

There are no strings. You get a 3% raise effective August 1, 2025. July 2025's backpay will either be a one month retroactive pay OR rolled into the overall wage increase backpay next year. In any case, any agreed upon wage increase for 2026 will take this 3% into consideration, and will only make up the difference. If we get a 4% raise in January 2026, for example, you will only see a 1% increase, because we will have already gotten 3% in August of this year.

Once again, you’re baiting the local for a response you can tear apart. I’ve left my family in Florida numerous times today to make sure you didn’t think you were being “ignored”. Tom has sent you texts that you’ve ignored. He’s trying to prepare for investigations that the Carrier is lobbing at us daily. Just because you aren’t getting the answers you want doesn’t mean we aren’t working our asses off. (Or in my case, taking a couple of days to spend with my family). Yea. Trying to elicit a response (especially regarding an explosive subject like this) in a public platform never works out. It’s not what this Wix App was ever designed for. It will never replace having a one-on-one conversation with your local officials. You know that. If anyone was to call me, you included, I would give you my best opinion of the situation, as would any other of the local officials that you elected.

What answer do you want? There is no answer that local officials could give that would satisfy you…. The people to whom you should be directing that question are in Topeka, and you won’t get a public forum to ask them. That question is more for those above our heads that have jurisdiction over 577 and 528.

Call it however you want. Take away money from the local and you’re just weakening your defense here. Legal or not, like it or not. As one of the current VLCs, I have a responsibility to try to make sure the financial stability of the locals aren’t jeopardized.

Understood, and agree. But— bankrupt the local, and your cause will cost you the war, or at least make contact negotiations the least of your worries. This is not one of those situations where you can say the operation of the local is collateral damage. On a local level, we still need to defend you from this Carrier, and enforce the existing contracts and agreements. That has not, nor will it change. We are still reeling from deficits from furloughs. The locals do not need anymore financial challenges thrown at it. Take your matters up directly with GCA and above, but don’t jeopardize your local defense.

Remember though, while you’re trying to teach the union higher-ups a lesson by attempting to reduce your dues, you are hurting your local representation more. The GCA and above will absorb any losses through other locals payments. But 577 and 528 locals (the ones that directly impact you the most) will suffer more.

You can do it either way. With manpower you’re most likely to get voicemail. CMS you’ll get someone live. Just ask to be put on the AWTS/AWRY board.

Here’s the story. When they decide that 10 guys are going to be furloughed, not everyone answers their phone, or because Manpower is handling furloughs from here to Los Angeles, they simply cannot notify everyone for 2-3 days. Unacceptable? Absolutely. In the mean time, people are notified NOT in seniority order, but who answers their phone. In the mean time, some of the 10 are trying to get themselves marked back up at any cost.. and the right caller may allow this to happen IF this is not their normal desk. So we have a situation where someone is actually on duty, while someone JUNIOR to them is on AWTS or at least BS55. Bottom line? There’s no way I can keep up with CMS. HOWEVER, when someone is below the cut list, and is working, the SENIOR furloughed guy is entitled to a restriction of seniority claim. THAT person only. So when this happens, the senior man gets a claim. Bottom line? Let me know WHO is working, and we will make sure the senior AWTS person puts in the appropriate claim.
