An injury to one is an injury to ALL! Take action today to tell the Illinois General Assembly that inaction on funding Metra is unacceptable. Drastic transit cuts not only affect our Metra members, but it would also have negative consequences for our Railroad Retirement security.
Illinois faces a $770 million transit fiscal cliff. If the Illinois General Assembly fails to act by May 31, we will face drastic service cuts that will negatively impact riders by cutting service, increasing costs, and slowing down commute times. SMART-TD is supporting the Labor Alliance for Public Transportation, a coalition of 30+ unions, fighting to save Public Transit in Illinois.
We are not standing idly by and watching. Just this week, Orlando Rojas of SMART-TD Local 653 was a featured guest on WGN Radio 720 AM's "The Workers' Mic: Spotlight on Transit," where he shared about his work advocating for United We Move in the Illinois General Assembly. We know from past surveys; the public is on our side.
The politicians have to hear from us; the squeaky wheel does indeed get the grease at the capitol. We need everyone we can to sign this letter to tell your legislators to support our "United We Move" bill to fund CTA, Metra and Pace and deliver safer, smarter public transit in Illinois!
