RRB & Back Pay
GO-953 Members:
Several questions have come up since the back pay checks have arrived. Let me answer a couple as far as RRB compensation is concerned.
I am told that the back pay will count as earnings for the 2023 year. However, the earnings will NOT get you a month of RRB service, will not count towards vacation eligibility, or increase previous year compensation for RRB computations.
Since you did not work for any of this money during the month of January, there will be NO loss of Unemployment or Sickness Benefits during the checking period this is paid in. Back pay will not count towards the $1050 limit that a person on a disability can make per month. Neither does back pay count towards the $21,240 per year amount that a retired person can make between retirement and their full retirement age (66-67).
For any additional questions, please contact me.
