RallyRally for Rail Labor

SMART-TD, along with other rail unions and organized labor, will be holding a rally in Galesburg, IL. next week on December 13th at noon. The rally will coincide with similar events in Washington, D.C. and across the nation to continue to highlight priorities like Two-Person train crews and Paid Sick Leave.

Next week is pivotal, as the Surface Transportation Board (STB) will be holding a two-day hearing to highlight Union Pacific's escalated use of embargoes and the effects they're having on shippers and the supply chain. Also, next week, the FRA will be holding it's hearing on their Two-Person crew rulemaking.

If you're available next week please join us, we need to keep the pressure on the Class I's and continue to fight for what railroad workers clearly deserve, the message is simple:

The need for increased rail safety – prioritizing the need to maintain two-person crews

The devastating effects of so-called “precision scheduled railroading” – (given the timing of the STB hearing, be sure to offer a focus on the devastation it has caused on rail shippers and the American economy)

The need for paid sick leave

Be aware (tips for attending rally):

Employees should only participate on their own time. This is NOT a strike. Do not mark-off to attend this event.

Access to the facility by motorists or pedestrians cannot be blocked.

Participants should be aware that the purpose is to draw the public’s attention to labor issues. Again, this is not a strike or a boycott.

Participants should not trespass on private property.

Participants should generally stay in a designated area on public property (likely sidewalks) but also not obstruct pedestrians.
