OGILVIE TRANSPORTATION DISTRICT
DATE: 3/16/2025
TO: ALL CONCERNED
SUBJECT: RESCUE MU CABLES
ISSUED BY: DEAN RIDDER - DIRECTOR
Metra locomotives are being supplied with Rescue MU cables for use when one train needs to push
another train due to mechanical problems. The cable will allow the engineer on the disabled locomotive,
or the Cab Car of a disabled train to control the rescue locomotive in a similar manner as a trailing unit in a locomotive consist, thus eliminating the need to operate at 30 mph.
The Rescue MU cables have male pins on one end. The other end has the normal female receptacle. The
normal MU cables have female receptacles on both ends. These cables are located on the rack on the rear of the locomotive on the engineer’s side. These specialized cables are painted orange and should not be confused with the normal MU cables.
